One of the greatest obstacles standing between you and your next shift isn't your age.

It's the voice in your head.

As women Rising in Age, many of us carry around an internal soundtrack that has been playing for decades. Sometimes it sounds like our parents. Sometimes it sounds like society. Sometimes it sounds like an old boss, a former partner, or a teacher who underestimated us.

Over time, those outside voices become our inside voices.

And before we know it, we're telling ourselves things like:

"I'm too old to start something new."

"I should have done that years ago."

"People my age don't do things like that."

The problem is that when you repeat these messages often enough, they begin to feel true.

I recently came across a study discussing the regrets women have later in life. What struck me wasn't what they regretted doing. It was what they regretted not doing.

The trip they never took.

The business they never started.

The class they never enrolled in.

The hobby they never explored.

The dream they never gave themselves permission to pursue.

Many of those dreams weren't abandoned because they were impossible. They were abandoned because an internal voice convinced them not to try.

The good news is that voice can change.

Start paying attention to the words you use when you think about yourself. What do you say when you make a mistake? What do you say when you have a new idea?

Would you speak to a friend that way?

Probably not.

So why are you speaking to yourself that way?

The next chapter of your life begins when you become your own best cheerleader. Replace criticism with encouragement. Replace judgment with curiosity.

Most importantly, replace "I'm too old" with "Why not?"

Because the truth is simple:

As long as you're here, you still have time.

And sometimes the biggest shift begins with changing one sentence in your mind.
